What and Where We Build

At Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity, we believe that home is the foundation for a stronger future. We’re committed to innovative, scalable housing solutions that meet the growing demand for affordability. With the support of our community, we’re making homeownership possible for more families across Dallas and Kaufman counties.

Dallas Habitat’s Construction Approach

Our approach to construction is rooted in fairness, community empowerment, and long-term affordability. We build quality, energy-efficient homes for income-qualified families earning up to 120% of the Area Median Income (AMI), which is up to $140,760 for a family of four, with a zero interest mortgage model designed to remove barriers to homeownership.

Our homes are built in close partnership with future homeowners, community leaders, and local contractors. We prioritize:

      • Sustainable, code-compliant design that reflects the needs of the neighborhood
      • Community-integrated site selection aligned with transportation, schools, and support services
      • Innovative construction financing tools like donor-backed bridge funds, down payment assistance partnerships, and community investment strategies that allow us to start construction before closing
      • Diverse housing typologies — including single-family, duplexes, and townhomes — tailored to the character of each neighborhood

Our construction model is data-informed and people-first, focused on increasing access to attainable homeownership while preserving the unique fabric of our neighborhoods.

Our Partner Communities

From neighborhoods like Joppa and Mill City to West Dallas and Pleasant Grove, we’re not just building homes, we’re reinforcing community ecosystems. Whether building on vacant land, revitalizing legacy lots, or developing strategic infill housing, Dallas Habitat is leading with purpose, creativity, and a deep commitment to housing justice (alt: fairness).

Joppa
Since 2006, we are proud to have built alongside and partnered with the historic Joppa community of Dallas, a neighborhood founded as a Freedman’s town in 1872. To date, we’ve constructed more than 100 homes in Joppa and have plans to build, repair, and rehabilitate even more in the coming months. Through thoughtful, sustainable design and ongoing community investment, our work strengthens neighborhood connectivity while honoring the legacy of this vibrant community.

Mill City
Dallas Habitat is celebrating over 20 years of building in the Mill City community. Guided by our strong belief in the power of public-private development partnerships to expand access to affordable homeownership, we’re participating in a joint venture with Good Urban Development and Matthews Southwest to help establish a connected neighborhood that blends mixed-income housing, commercial space, and green space. This development supports sustainable growth, walkability, and long-term community stability, while expanding access to quality, affordable housing.

Pleasant Grove
Dallas Habitat is excited to launch a new development project in Pleasant Grove, where we plan to build more than 25 new homes for local families. As our first initiative in this community, the project marks an important milestone in our efforts to expand access to affordable homeownership across Dallas.

Wheatland Plaza
Our upcoming development at Wheatland Plaza in Duncanville will transform an underused parking lot into a vibrant mix of modern, affordable townhomes alongside a revitalized retail center. This project will increase housing options, improve walkability, and strengthen community connections—supporting both residential life and local business growth to create a more livable, connected neighborhood.

Our Homes

In today’s challenging affordable housing market, diversity in home options is essential to meet the needs of our growing community. While we continue to improve the amenities and quality of our traditional Dallas Habitat infill homes, we’re expanding our portfolio to include innovative new home types such as townhomes and duplexes offering families a wider range of affordable, comfortable choices.

Dallas Habitat builds homes with 2, 3, or 4 bedrooms, each featuring 2 bathrooms. Our construction includes one or two car garages and beautifully landscaped yards.
